We’ve all heard of life referred to as both a gift and a curse. It’s one of our greatest gifts and mysteries alike. Academic, scientific, and religious scholars have researched and debated the question of why do humans have to die for hundreds of years. Just for laughs and nostalgic purposes, here is a Disney Channel Circle of Stars version of this song: Oh 90’s Disney (Yes that’s Kim Possible, Raven Symone, and Lizzie McGuire singing together). The gift of life has forever been a mystery. It captures the beauty of nature.Īnd here is the song itself: Circle of Life I think the colors, the animals, setting and everything in this is absolutely gorgeous.

Here is the scene in which the song takes place: Movie Clip A fantastic introduction to my favorite Disney movie. The voices swell together and everything ends suddenly on a pound of a drum as the title screen appears.Ī very intense, beautiful, powerful, dramatic, recognizable, and incredible song. Carmen sings her last “The Circle of Life”. Everything builds up and continues to build. This song has a very dramatic ending to it as well. This key change is where the sun shines down from the heavens onto the baby Simba. I enjoy the first change at 3:26 that leads to the key change at 3:32. The drums have a nice fill with the transition and Carmen begins singing again. But as he reaches the top, he holds Simba up into the air and the music explodes back into the chorus. The music begins to build little by little here. Rafiki picks up the cub and walks up Pride Rock. Rafiki puts the melon juice upon his brow and you can hear him purring. This is the scene in which we first see Simba, as a baby, with his parents. There is a subtle percussion part of light drums and shakers. It’s a very gentle part of the song, very different from the power already presented. There is a melody taken over by a wind instrument (I’m not sure exactly which one, it could be a special African version of a flute). She continues to increase the power in her voice throughout the chorus until it fades to the bridge.ĭuring the bridge, the voices continue to chant in the background. The choir is a beautiful blend with Carmen’s voice. A stronger percussion part comes in, the amount of voices increases. She sings the famous line of “It’s the Circle of Life”. Her verses are constantly building until the “drop” (if you will) at 1:36 when the chorus comes in. As she sings, the sound becomes fuller and the volume increases. The background voices remain present, but quieter. It has a very acoustic quality at this point: voices and slight percussion.Īt 51 seconds, Carmen Twillie enters the song singing her beautiful lyrics in her powerful voice. At the end of this chant, at 28 seconds, percussion instruments begin to fade into the song along with a very subtle crescendo of the chanting voices and held notes from a choir. Ingonyama nengw’ enamabala ”īehind the chanting, there is a drone of choir voices, occasionally chanting along. Well this song begins, as I said, with that chant above led by Lebo M. Hans Zimmer and the Swahili singers - It doesn’t get more unique and powerful than that combination. The Lion King soundtrack is one of the most recognizable of the soundtracks for Disney. You also get the mental image of a lion being hoisted in the air for all to see.

Most of us don’t even know the exact lyrics, we just babble along while singing at full volume. Who isn’t overcome with that feeling of “YESSS!!” when hearing the classic singing of “Nants ingonyama bagithi baba”? We’ve all done it.
